  • How was your Earth Hour?

As many of you might know, yesterday, March 27th, held Earth Hour at 8:30 within your respective timezone. In an effort to show Mother Nature respect, this event encourages individuals to turn off their electric devices for one hour. Although this doesn’t sound like much, the power of the butterfly effect nods its head towards nature stronger than we think. Rather than using electricity, candles and fireplaces are used to see instead.

While this is a great idea, the world turning off most electricity for a whole hour, it can be unrealistic for many. Thankfully, there wasn’t only one way to celebrate Earth Hour. The World Wildlife Fund for nature (WWF) had posted a “must-watch video” on all their social media platforms for people to share. Supporters from around the globe were instructed to share the video with as many people as possible to raise awareness and place the long-overdue spotlight on the climate crisis we face.

There were also many digital events available across the different timezones. Some are going on today! Earth Hour’s global coverage gives activists across the world a platform to get together, learn, and discuss the deeply intersectional effects of climate change. Starting from there, the website also provides an extensive guide to the questions “Why are we losing nature?” and “What is biodiversity and why is it important?”. For those who are looking to learn more about these issues, head straight for the WWF Earth Hour website!

How have you changed from before Earth Hour? While the commitment is relatively low, there is much to be unpacked. The climate crisis has gone too far for us to ignore any longer. We must continue to actively consider the earth and how we treat it!
