As summer slowly sees its way to the end, we must make haste to spend every last drop of the season! In the Pacific Northwest, we see climate change’s effects heavily with wildfires spreading across California and Oregon. While it is important to have fun, we cannot forget to consider the earth while we play. Here are some ways to keep your summer plans environmentally friendly!

Air conditioning is one of the worst offenders of environmental sustainability, meaning that the more we reduce air conditioning amounts, the cooler summer will eventually become. Closing the blinds and turning off lights will make indoor rooms cooler, and drinking water helps regulate body temperatures. If air conditioning is needed, look into energy-efficient ones!

Vacations are not limited to the ones you take on a plane! Planes produce extremely high amounts of carbon, so it is best to avoid them. The United States and many other countries have vast and diverse landscapes that can be seen by car or train, vehicles that produce comparatively lower carbon emissions. Take advantage of the forests, beaches, and mountains that surround your respective area!

Grilling and barbeques are very popular in the summer, making it the perfect time for green grilling. Green grilling means avoiding tools that are worse for the atmosphere and switching to more natural options. Instead of petroleum-based lighter fluids, using charcoal chimneys or natural lighter fluids is better for the atmosphere. Instead of charcoal grills, using gas grills is more energy efficient. Cleaning out your grill regularly helps avoid unnecessary smoke.

Small changes like these add up to make bigger changes! Let’s save the environment one step at a time.
