Fashion for Conservation was pleased to present its first ever virtual fashion & sustainability panel this past Wednesday September 30! Firstly, a huge thank you to everyone that attended. We know how difficult it is to make time out of your busy weekday schedules, but we hope you learned as much from our panelists as we did!

Here are our Top 5 event highlights:

    1. Pandemic secret: Surprise! Our beloved Co-Founder Ava J. Holmes announced publicly for the first time that she’s expecting her first child!
    2. Prioritizing sustainable choices: Our audience asked, “how do we reconcile driving a Prius, but taking a plane to vacation in the summer?” The delicate balance of making intentional choices where we can but failing to live up to a perfectly eco-conscious lifestyle may feel discouraging at times. Celebrity stylist and fashion designer, Rene Garza, shared his top tip, “not to get too anxious about every little choice, and to do our best with what we can simply to get started and promote ongoing planet – healthy habits going forward”.
    3. Coping with (or without) family: Both Rene and Elle are engaging with their respective families amidst quarantine in different ways. Rene is constantly with his, playing board games (Mexico bingo is a favorite) while Influencer, DJ, and FFC Ambassador, Elle L, remains miles away from hers, and shared her coping strategies amid the distance.
    4. Dealing with eco-anxiety: It’s been a record-breaking hot summer, and the wildfires that scorched our nation proved it. It can be especially hard for people in the city who may have lost their connection to green nature throughout the smoky plume but since the air has finally cleared back up, our panelists recommend going to your nearest park and to take in the changing colors of the trees and to become reconnected with nature.
    5. Participation Award: We kept our eye out for the most attentive, thoughtful audience member and Daisy Hutton was our winner! Daisy won our Signature Red Beaded Bracelet, crafted by the Artisans of the Yine Tribe for fair labor and wages.

Couldn’t make the panel, live? No worries, here‘s the full recorded event on our Facebook page. Follow us there and on Instagram so you don’t miss the next one!
